Parking shade netting is a different purchase from agricultural shade net, even though it's the same knitted HDPE base. A car park wants a denser shade to cut the UV that fades paint and cracks dashboards, and the net has to be tensioned across a much wider span than a crop row. Get the GSM and the support structure right and one net protects a whole lot for a decade; get them wrong and a first storm pulls it down.
For vehicles, the goal is UV and heat reduction, not plant growth. That points to a higher shade factor than most crop shading. A 90% shade net is the working standard for carports and parking lots — it blocks most of the damaging UV while still letting enough air move to stop the space underneath turning into an oven. Where the structure is fully open and wind is a concern, some buyers drop to 80% to reduce wind load; the trade is slightly less UV cut.
Because a car park span is wide and the net is pulled tight for years, go heavier than a typical crop net. We spec 150–180 gsm for parking structures — the extra weight resists sag, holds tension against wind, and survives the constant UV of an exposed desert or southern-hemisphere site. Lighter 90–120 gsm shade net will shade fine for a season or two, but over a wide span it stretches and flaps, which shortens its life.
The net is only half the job; the frame is the other half. A parking canopy needs steel posts and a tensioned cable or frame, with the net fixed at every edge eyelet and along the seams. Because shade net is breathable, some wind passes through — but a 90% net still catches real wind across a large roof area, so the posts and anchors must be rated for the local wind zone. In exposed coastal or desert sites we recommend spacing fixing points closer and using a higher GSM to damp the flapping that fatigues the mesh.

Run the net with a slight fall so rainwater doesn't pool, and fix it at regular intervals with UV cable ties or clips rather than just at the corners — a net fixed only at the corners sags in the middle and collects water and debris.
