Custom HDPE Netting: OEM Buyer’s Guide

Custom netting is not a surcharge — it is seven machine settings. Send these seven spec lines and any real factory can quote you in 24 hours.

Every week importers email factories a photo and the words “I need custom netting” — and every week the deals that succeed are the ones where the buyer replaces the photo with seven numbers. Custom HDPE netting is not a premium service with a surcharge; at a knitting factory it is the default way of working, because GSM, aperture, width, color, edges, finishing and packaging are machine settings, not product lines. This guide is the ordering playbook we give new distributors: what you can customize, how to write a spec that gets a 24-hour quote, and the mistakes that turn custom orders into container-loads of regret.

The Seven Things You Can Actually Customize

  • Weight (GSM) — from ~40 gsm seasonal nets to 350 gsm heavy screens. Weight is the price driver: netting is polymer sold by the kilogram.
  • Function spec — shade rate (30–90%), mesh/aperture (bird 5–25 mm, insect 2–7 mm, hail 3–8 mm), porosity for windbreaks, blockage for privacy screen.
  • Dimensions — widths from 1 m to 12 m seamless, roll lengths to order, or cut panels (olive nets 3×6 to 12×12 m, shade sails to your fixing points).
  • Color — green, black, white, blue, high-visibility orange/yellow, two-tone; custom shades on volume.
  • Edges and finishing — reinforced selvages, knitted eyelets, webbing hems with grommets, FR (flame-retardant) versions with dated test reports.
  • Construction — monofilament or tape knit, which changes hand-feel, tear strength and shade-per-gram at the same GSM.
  • Packaging — your private label, roll inserts, barcodes, retail-ready folded units or bulk rolls, outer-wrap print.

How to Write a Spec a Factory Can Quote in 24 Hours

A quotable custom-netting inquiry has seven lines. Copy this template:

  • Application — crop/site and the problem (e.g., “table grapes, bird pressure at veraison”).
  • Function spec — shade rate or mesh size, or “recommend for my case” with the details.
  • GSM or service years — e.g., 90 gsm, or “must last 5 seasons installed”.
  • Dimensions — width × roll length, or panel sizes with quantities per size.
  • Color and edges — color, plus eyelet/webbing/selvage requirements.
  • Packaging — bulk or private label, roll insert design if you have it.
  • Destination port and target month — so the quote includes realistic freight timing.

An inquiry with those seven lines gets pricing, roll counts and container loading back within 24 hours. An inquiry that says “send me your best price for shade net” gets a list of questions — and loses a week.

MOQ Logic: Why Custom Runs Start at 2 Tons

Custom knitting means mounting your spec on a machine — yarn change, gauge set, a short stabilization run before good net comes off. That setup cost is why honest factories quote MOQs in tons, not rolls: our minimum is 2 tons (5 tons for warning fence), which at typical agricultural weights is 25,000–100,000 m² — small enough for a distributor’s first season. The trick that makes MOQ painless: mixed containers. Your 14–15-ton 40’HQ can carry four or five specs — different GSM, widths, colors, even different product lines — each above its own small minimum, so a first order can stock a whole shelf instead of betting on one SKU.

Sampling: Free Samples, Then a Production-Grade Check

Samples of any spec we knit are free — you cover the courier. Use them like a buyer, not a browser: weigh a square meter to verify actual GSM against the label (honest tolerance ±5%), measure the aperture with a ruler across ten openings, fold and flex the net to feel the difference between monofilament and tape, and check the edge reinforcement by loading a corner. Ask for the UV-stabilizer documentation with the sample — it is the one spec you cannot see or feel, and the one that decides whether the net dies in year two or year five. When the sample passes, the bulk order is produced to the same batch recipe, and we keep retention samples from your container so any later question is answered against your actual material.

Five Mistakes That Ruin Custom Orders

  • Specing from a photo — a photo cannot carry GSM, aperture or UV dose. Send numbers; if you don’t know them, send the application and let the factory propose.
  • No tolerance in writing — “about 100 gsm” is a dispute waiting to happen. State the tolerance (we quote ±5% as standard).
  • Packaging as an afterthought — private-label wraps and barcodes set up before production, not after. Changing them mid-run costs the week you saved.
  • Comparing price per roll — a heavier roll always costs more. Compare price per kg at stated GSM, or landed cost per m².
  • No batch documentation — without a UV report and retention samples, a quality claim in year three is your word against a photo.

Lead Time, Payment and Container Loading

Standard production for custom specs runs 25–35 days after deposit; add ocean freight to plan your season (Mediterranean olive harvest buyers order by midsummer, spring orchard programs by early winter). Payment is T/T 30% deposit with 70% balance against documents, or 100% L/C at sight. A 40’HQ loads 14–15 tons; we provide the loading plan with roll counts per SKU before the container closes, so your warehouse knows exactly what arrives before it lands. One habit that separates smooth custom orders from stressful ones: confirm the proforma invoice line by line against your seven-line spec before paying the deposit — five minutes of checking is cheaper than thirty days of producing the wrong width. Start the spec conversation through the contact page or WhatsApp — send the seven lines and you will have a factory answer within 24 hours.

Custom HDPE Netting FAQ

What is the MOQ for custom HDPE netting?

2 tons per order (5 tons for warning fence), with mixed specs allowed in one container — different GSM, widths, colors and even product lines together, as long as each SKU clears its small minimum. That is how first-season distributors stock a full shelf.

How much does custom netting cost compared to standard?

Custom specs at our factory are machine settings, not a premium tier — the price is driven by GSM and resin, not by the fact that your width or color is unusual. Private-label packaging adds only its print and material cost.

How do I verify the factory will produce what I specified?

Three tools: free pre-production samples (weigh and measure them yourself), a written spec with tolerances on the proforma invoice, and batch documentation — UV test report plus factory retention samples from your container.

Can you make netting to my measurements?

Yes — widths to 12 m seamless, roll lengths to order, cut panels (harvest nets in eight sizes 3×6–12×12 m), and made-to-measure shade sails from your fixing-point dimensions. Dimensional customization is standard, not a surcharge.

How long does a custom order take?

25–35 days of production after deposit, plus ocean freight to your port. Send the spec early in your off-season; harvest-deadline orders should be placed at least 10–12 weeks before the season opens.

Golden rule

Replace the photo with seven lines: application, function spec, GSM, dimensions, color/edges, packaging, port. Send yours today and we will quote your custom netting — samples, tolerances and container loading — within 24 hours.
