What do you need to pay attention to about anti-bird netting?

Anti-bird netting refers to netting that is used to prevent birds from accessing or damaging certain areas. Some key points about anti-bird netting:

- It creates a physical barrier with small openings that birds cannot fly through. The mesh size is typically 1/2 inch or less.

- Made of durable materials like nylon, polyethylene, polypropylene that can withstand exposure to weather and birds trying to peck through it.

- Often used to protect fruit trees, crops, gardens, buildings, boats, etc from bird damage.

- Can be installed overhead and anchored using clips, ropes, stakes, or frames to keep netting taut.

- Available in various colors but black, green, or brown nets blend in best visually.

- Consider potential risks of entangling birds and impact on beneficial wildlife before installing. Proper setup and maintenance are important.

- Advantages over other deterrents are its effectiveness, durability, and affordability in covering larger areas.

- Alternative humane bird deterrents include reflective tape, sound devices, bird spikes, gel repellents. But netting provides a full physical barrier when installed properly.

Anti-bird netting can be very effective at deterring birds when installed and used properly:

- Effectiveness depends on proper sizing and installation. The netting holes should be smaller than the birds you want to deter. It needs to be taut with no sagging areas where birds can access.

- Durable materials like polyethylene and nylon stand up well to weather and birds over time. Metal grommets at installation points reinforce strength.

- Coverage area is a benefit over individual deterrents like spikes or tape. Netting can protect entire gardens, buildings, ponds, etc.

- Used correctly, anti-bird netting provides a full physical barrier that is very difficult for birds to penetrate. Studies show it can reduce bird damage by up to 100% when installed well.

- Regular inspection and maintenance is key to maintaining effectiveness. Look for and repair any holes, sagging sections, or areas where birds can potentially get underneath.

- Larger mesh netting may be less effective for smaller, more agile birds that can slip through bigger holes.

- It is not 100% effective for all bird species. Highly motivated birds may still find access points. Proper installation reduces this risk.

So in summary, anti-bird netting can be extremely effective when the right netting and setup is used for the type of birds you want to deter from an area. Like any deterrent, proper usage is key.
